This is Fred in the first stream we sampled this spring. It is a small no name stream which drains into the Taunton River upstream of Cherry St. in Bridgewater. Despite its small size we found this stream supported one of the most diverse aquatic macro invertebrate communities of all the streams we sampled.

Here is some of what we found.

 Cranefly larvae

Dragonfly nymphs

An assortment of caddisfly larvae

A word of caution about these small streams. If you lay down on your belly and look into the water of one of these streams for a  moment you will see an incredible amount of life. Much of this life is incapable of moving quickly. Please don't use these small streams as foot paths. With each step you will kill any number of these tiny creatures, many of which are rare and unique.
